Lee Daniels Announces ‘Star’ Will Officially End With A TV Movie
Lee Daniels, 59, says that his cancelled FOX series Star will be making a comeback to television, but not in its regular form – instead a television movie.
The Philly-born director and producer posted a video of him at the doctors where he explain the good news,
“The bad news is that ‘Star’ is not getting picked up for series. Too long of a story to cry about. But the good news is that we’re doing a movie of the week to wrap things up for you all. We’re going to make something real special for you to scream about, with all of our cast members – even the dead ones.”
He captioned off the Instagram video saying,
“Get ready for a two-hour GAG!!!!!”
“Star,” was a primetime soap opera about three girls’ who came to together to form a popular girl group while dealing with the inner trapping that comes with fame, money and success. It was canceled in May after three seasons.
The show launched the careers of Ryan Destiny and Amiyah Scott while continuing to make Quincy Brown a celebrity in his own right outside his association with his adopted father Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. Hollywood veterans Queen Latifah, Lenny Kravitz and Naomi Campbell were also stars and recurring guests on the series, respectively.
Many did speculate that the shows’ cancellation may have something to do with the backlash from the Jussie Smollett scandal plaguing the Lee and the Empire/Star family since February. 20th Century Fox TV representatives have yet to comment.
