Denzel Washington Gives $1 Million To College Debate Team, Oprah Donates $22.5 Million In Company Stake To Her Foundation
Denzel Washington and Oprah Winfrey put their money where their mouth is! They’re among a list of celebrities who donated millions to charity in 2018-2019.
Washington renewed his $1 million commitment to the debate team at Wiley College, which was the inspiration behind the hit movie The Great Debaters.
Winfrey donated $22.5 million in company stake to the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation. That organization supports her Leadership Academy in South Africa and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Kanye West also donated $10 million to the Turrell Art Foundation so it could finish construction at the Roden Center. The project has been in the works for 40 years as James Turrell develops rooms and tunnels inside the extinct volcano Arizona Painted Desert.

Steven Spielberg donated $2 million to National Women’s Law Center for the Time’s Up movement’s defense fund. The money, given through his Wunderkinder Foundation, will provide funds for legal services for victims reporting sexual assault and harassment.
Seth Macfarlane donated $2 million to NPR’s Collaborative Journalism Network and $500,000 to a local L.A. office, KPCC, Ryan Murphy and David Miller teamed up to give $10 million to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles after their son received treatment at the hospital.
