Cardi B’s Deposition In Lawsuit Will Remain Sealed
Cardi B’s celebrity status is helping her deposition during her legal battle with her ex-manager stay sealed. A judge ruled that the videotaped deposition will stay sealed. The decision is after lawyers for Cardi’, whose real name is, Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar pleaded with the court that the deposition footage could become the next topic for viral memes and gifs.
They said last month,
“It is nearly certain that any information or documents about Ms. Almanzar not restricted from public dissemination will be published to the public at large via various traditional and social media outlets. The public release of any video of Ms. Almanzar’s deposition, in particular, poses a significant risk of harm and misuse on social media platforms because it is highly likely that any such video will be reproduced and edited (and possibly manipulated) into out-of-context video clips and GIFs of her testimony.”

Fortunately for Cardi, Manhattan magistrate judge Gabriel Gorenstein agreed. He said in his decision,
“The Court concludes that the status of Belcalis Almanzar as a person of public interest, as well as the privacy interest enjoyed by any litigant, strongly counsel in favor of limiting the use of the video version of the deposition.”
“Accordingly, it is hereby ordered that the video version of the deposition of Belcalis Almanzar shall be used only for purposes of this litigation and shall not be filed or otherwise disseminated to any member of the public without permission of the Court.”
Still, the judge hasn’t decided if transcripts from the deposition will be sealed.
theJasmineBRAND previously reported that Cardi’s former manager Shaft is suing her for $10 million. He alleges that the rapper kicked him out of her career once she made it big.
Cardi later filed a countersuit for $15 million.
She accused Shaft of using her and said their agreement was more unfair to her than him. She said he got 20% commission but refused to accept anything less than half of her music publishing agreement with Sony. She said he also was very controlling over her personal life and even tried to come in between her and her now husband, Offset.
