A$AP Rocky Performs For The First Time Since Being Released, Says ‘I Need Y’all To Keep Praying For Me’ Ahead Of Verdict For Assault Charges

A$AP Rocky wants fans to keep their prayers up for him this week. He receives the verdict on assault charges in Sweden on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was charged in the country last month after a video of him getting into an altercation with a man on the street surfaced.

Despite saying it was self-defense, he was charged and held in jail for weeks until his trial. While he was initially denied bail, he was released and given the green light to return to the U.S. after his trial wrapped earlier this month. But with the possibility of a guilty verdict weighing over him, A$AP said he still needs prayer. If found guilty he could spend up two years in jail in Sweden.

He told fans to pray for him during a performance at Real Street Fest at Honda Center Grounds in Anaheim, Calif. Saturday.

“I just wanna say once again…I’m so f***in’ happy to be here. I know y’all was praying for me. I’m gonna need y’all to keep praying for me. Hopefully with God’s will I’m not guilty. I get the verdict on Wednesday, so I need y’all to keep praying for me. Hopefully we ain’t gotta go back to jail or nothing like that… nothing crazy.”

He added that people in Sweden are rooting for him too.

“I don’t got nothing against Swedish people cause they were protesting right outside the jails. It was people from Swedish jails writing me… held it down. This is an unfortunate event and I’m just trying to stay blessed. Hopefully I’m not guilty, so pray for your boy.”

This marked his first performance since being released. He made a statement shortly after he was freed and thanked fans for their support and the court for allowing him to return to the U.S.

“THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART TO ALL OF MY FANS, FRIENDS AND ANYONE ACROSS THE GLOBE WHO SUPPORTED ME DURING THESE LAST FEW WEEKS I CANT BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW GRATEFUL I AM FOR ALL OF YOU THIS HAS BEEN A VERY DIFFICULT AND HUMBLING EXPERIENCE I WANT TO THANK THE COURT FOR ALLOWING ME BLADI AND THOTO TO RETURN TO OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL OF THE LOVE AND SUPPORT”
