Cuba Gooding Jr. Could Face Up To 1 Year In Prison Over Sexual Assault, Trial Delayed
Academy award winner Cuba Gooding Jr. was met with both good and bad news today. If he is found guilty of forcible touching and sexual abuse charges, the actor is facing up to one year in prison. He could also walk away with no time behind bars. However, that will be determined once a trial has taken place – which was postponed by the judge today.

Cuba Gooding Jr.
According to reports, he briefly appeared in a New York court today (9/3/19) for what was supposed to be the first day of trial for his June sexual assault incident. Deputy District Attorney Jenna Long and the D.A.’s office announced that due to insufficient amounts of evidence, they were not ready to begin trial as planned. Cuba Gooding Jr.’s next court date was scheduled for October 10th. A request to throw the case out was recently denied. His lawyer, Mark Heller, commented:
“We believe the only reason he was arrested and prosecuted was because of his celebrity status.”
As we previously reported, Cuba turned himself into NYPD’s Special Victim’s Unit on June 13th after a woman claimed he groped he at a Manhattan bar.
