Gayle King Says R. Kelly’s Spit Landed On her Lip During His Rant ‘I Didn’t Want To Make Any Sudden Movements’

Gayle King really did take one for the team!

It’s been months since her explosive sit-down with disgraced singer R. Kelly aired in March. But now, she’s giving more details, including the fact that he accidentally spit on her as he lashed out about accusations that he had inappropriate sexual relationships with underage women.

She spoke of the infamous moment he stood over and yelled that he was fighting for his life.

“No one has done that to me. I never thought that he was gonna hurt me. But when he was [punching his hand in his fist], I thought he was going to accidentally hurt me. I was worried about that. You could tell he could hit hard. But he was spitting, it was flying all over the place, and his spit fell on my lip. I just sat there thinking, ‘I don’t wanna move.’ If somebody does that to you, you can gracefully [wipe your lip], but I knew I didn’t want to make any sudden movements because he was very amped up.

I really think we were watching him have a breakdown in real-time. I don’t think that was fake. I don’t. I never thought I’d be a meme. I wasn’t trying to be a meme. Had it happened to me younger, I would’ve been very afraid. But I really wasn’t. I didn’t think he wanted to hurt me.”

When asked about a possible group chat between King, Opray Winfrey and Winfrey’s long-time boyfriend Stedman Graham, King said,

“Oprah does not respond with GIFs of herself.”

She joked,

“We don’t have a group chat. I don’t know what you’re trying to say but I don’t like it. I’m no longer talking to you… We don’t have that. We are not messy people. I think you have fun, we can have fun, but I would never describe us as messy. I watch all the messy shows so I find it entertaining. I’ve never had a fight with a girlfriend where we’re cussing each other out. I’ve never flipped over the table. We’re actually very square, I have to tell you.
