R. Kelly’s Lawyer Wants New York Racketeering Charges Dropped, Claims STD Clause Is Unconstitutional
Details of disgraced singer R. Kelly‘s varying child sex abuse charges have become more shocking by the days. Last summer, the once-heralded “King of R&B” was hit with 12 counts of human trafficking and racketeering charges in the state of New York alone. However, a seven-page motion, filed by his lawyer Steve Greenberg, calls for the charges to be dropped.

Steve cites a loophole in New York Public Health Law section 2307 and New York Penal Law section 120.20. Both are contingent on the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. R. Kelly’s legal team is arguing that both the aforementioned charges and his four counts of Mann Act violations should be dropped due to the STD clause being “unconstitutional.” The Chicago Sun-Times says the motion calls the clause:
“…overly broad and, effectively, prohibit anyone with an STD from engaging in sexual intercourse.”
Steve Greenberg has not yet made any official statements on this development, but the active Twitter user retweeted an article on the matter.

Meanwhile, in his already mounting legal troubles, the 53-year-old was placed in default by a Chicago judge after skipping several hearings regarding a civil child sex abuse lawsuit. In the suit, Heather Williams alleges that R. Kelly lured her into a sexual relationship when she was just 16-years-old.
