Sofia Vergara Replaces Gabrielle Union & Julianne Hough As ‘America’s Got Talent’ New Judge

Sofia Vergara has officially snagged a new TV gig on America’s Got Talent. The actress, who stars on “Modern Family” will be a judge on the new season replacing Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough, who previously were judges on season 14.

Sofia Vergara will join Heidi Klum, Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel. Terry Crews will also return in late summer. Sofia Vergara said in a statement:

“I’m so happy to join my new family on ‘AGT’. This is a new and exciting next chapter for me and I’m extremely proud to be the first Latin judge on the show. I can’t wait to watch all the talent and have fun with all you guys!”

America’s Got Talent made headlines late last year when it was reported that Gabrielle Union was allegedly fired because she challenged the rumored toxic environment behind the scenes. She allegedly took issue with fellow judge and executive producer Simon Cowell smoking indoors and had a problem with former late-night talk show host, Jay Leno, allegedly telling an inappropriate racist joke during his stint as a guest judge. On top of that, she was reportedly told her hairstyles were “too black.”

Gabrielle Union later reported speaking her “unfiltered truth” during a “productive” five-hour meeting with NBC, which is investigating the complaints and promising changes, if necessary, according to NBC Entertainment chief Paul Telegdy.
