Original story: Former Mayor of Tallahassee, Fl. Andrew Gillum has found himself in a tough spot.

Gillum, who also ran for governor of the state last year, has been linked to a crystal meth situation.

The incident took place early Friday morning (March 13), according to Miami’s Local 10.

A police report alleges that Miami Beach Fire Rescue workers received a call about a possible overdose at a local hotel on West Avenue. Andrew Gillum, along with two other men, Aldo Mejias and Travis Dyson, were said to be in the same hotel room where the alleged overdose occurred.

Travis Dyson was allegedly the one who booked the hotel room with Aldo Mejias’s credit card. Dyson checked into the room at roughly 4 in the afternoon on Thursday (March 12). When Aldo Mejias got to the room that evening, he allegedly saw both Travis Dyson and Andrew Gillum in the hotel room. They allegedly appeared to have used an unknown substance. Dyson is said to have been the one to open the door for Mejias before he allegedly fell on the bed.

Mejias called police after he realized that Dyson couldn’t breathe properly and threw up on the bed before falling again. Mejias also tried to help Dyson via chest compressions before alerting authorities.

The report also alleges police had difficulty getting Andrew Gillum’s side of the story because he was too intoxicated.

Dyson was later checked into Mt. Sinai Medical Center. He is reportedly in stable condition.

Police also reportedly went back to the hotel and confirmed that Andrew Gillum was also in stable condition.

Still, three clear bags that were said to have had crystal meth in them were seized from the hotel room and booked into evidence. According to authorities, Gillum

“returned to his residence without incident.”

He’s since released a statement.

“I was in Miami last night for a wedding celebration when first responders were called to assist one of my friends,” Gillum said in the statement. “While I had too much to drink, I want to be clear that I have never used methamphetamines. I apologize to the people of Florida for the distraction this has caused our movement.

“I’m thankful to the incredible Miami Beach EMS team for their efforts. I will spend the next few weeks with my family and appreciate privacy during this time.”

A rep for Miami Beach police said the ordea

“is not being investigated as a criminal matter.”

Gillum hasn’t addressed it on social media.
