Donald Trump Defends Calling Coronavirus ‘The Chinese Virus’: It Comes From China, It’s Not Racist At All
Donald Trump is doubling down on calling the coronavirus the “Chinese” virus.
During a press conference on the pandemic Thursday (March 18).
“Cause it comes from China. It’s not racist at all. Not at all. It comes from China. That’s why. I wanna be accurate.”
President Trump defends his use of “Chinese virus” to refer to COVID-19, telling @CeciliaVega it is “not racist at all.”
The use of the term has been under scrutiny amid reported incidents of bias against Asian Americans. https://t.co/piDsmnkG0y pic.twitter.com/NgRUtPiJro

When asked about people from China who live in the United States, Donald Trump said,
“I have great love for all of the people from our country. But as you know, China tried to say at one point, maybe they stopped now, that it was caused by American soldiers. That can’t happen. It’s not gonna happen. Not as long as I’m president.”
Meanwhile, Donald Trump himself had to get tested for the virus last week.
According to reports, his test came back negative.
