Raven Symone Addresses Black Twitter On New Freestyle: How You Gonna Revoke My Black Card? It’s The Color Of My Skin Boo Boo!
Raven Symone is spending her time in quarantine addressing her controversial, “I’m not an African-American,” comment from 2014. She made the statement during her “Where Are They Now,” interview with media mogul Oprah Winfrey. She said during the interview,
“I don’t want to be labeled ‘gay,’ I want to be labeled ‘a human who loves humans. I’m tired of being labeled. I’m an American. I’m not an African-American. I’m an American.”
Symone added,
“I don’t know how far back they go… I don’t know what country in Africa I’m from, but I do know that my roots are in Louisiana. I’m an American. And that’s a colorless person.”
She’s now confronting the criticism she received via her new song “Queen Freestyle.”
On the track, Raven Symone raps,
“I’m a black American. Aw s***, she said it again! She’s a black American. Strong and beautiful like the people before me. Yeah, I know my ancestry, we all from Africa, alright. But my people slaved and tended this soil so I could stand free a whole human on this land holding my wife’s hand.”
She goes on to address having her black card rejected,
“So when black Twitter says they wanna revoke my black card, wait, I’m confused, how are you going to revoke my black card? It’s the color of my skin, boo boo. But my black experience is different than any other.”

She continues,
“Don’t be mad at me because I grew up differently on every red carpet at 19. Multiple houses around the country, higher pull out rate at every automatic teller machine. I was doing that in my late teens.”
In addition, the former ‘The View,‘ co-host seemed to address her comments on discriminating those ethnic-sounding names while on the Emmy winning daytime talk show in 2015. She said back then,
“I’m not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea. It’s just not going to happen. I’m not going to hire you.”
She rapped on her new song,
“And as for the things I said on ‘The View’, I already apologized so bye boo boo. Cause the girl you love was curated for your spending pleasure, but this b**** right here could give a f*** about your pleasants.”
Raven Symone is set to release her five-track EPINFRASOUNDS on April 10. Fans can preorder it starting Monday (April 6) on mainstream platforms like iTunes and Apple Music.
