Donald’s Trump Content Will No Longer Be Promoted On Snapchat: We Will Not Amplify Voices Who Incite Racial Violence
Executives at Snapchat have made a decision about President Donald Trump’s messages on their social media platform. According to reports, they have decided to no longer promote his account, concluding that his tweets over the weekend incited violence.
Reportedly, Trump’s account will remain open, but it will not be promoted within the app’s Discover Tab. Trump’s account has nearly tripled to 1.5 million followers in 8 months, in part, due to Snapchat’s Discover Tab.
Snapchat executives made a statement about the President’s @realdonaldtrump account.
“We are not currently promoting the president’s content on Snapchat’s Discover platform.”
The statement continued:
“We will not amplify voices who incite racial violence and injustice by giving them free promotion on Discover. Racial violence and injustice have no place in our society and we stand together with all who seek peace, love, equality, and justice in America.”
As voters gear up elections, recently, Donald Trump’s team allegedly used the platform to slam presidential candidate, Joe Biden, using the song “Whatever You Like” by rapper, T.I.
The audio states,
“I want yo’ body, need yo’ body, long as you got me you want need Joe Biden”

Donald Trump also made recent headlines in conjunction with another social media giant: Twitter. As previously reported, Twitter added fact-checks to the President’s tweets and Donald Trump threatened to shut down social media.

Donald Trump, Jack Dorsey
CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey responded defending the social media brand. He said in a statement,
“Fact check: there is someone ultimately accountable for our actions as a company, and that’s me. Please leave our employees out of this. We’ll continue to point out incorrect or disputed information about elections globally. And we will admit to and own any mistakes we make.”

He continued,
“This does not make us an ‘arbiter of truth.’ Our intention is to connect the dots of conflicting statements and show the information to dispute so people can judge for themselves. More transparency from us is critical so folks can clearly see the why behind our actions.”
He concluded,
“Per our Civic Integrity policy… the tweets yesterday may mislead people into thinking they don’t need to register to get a ballot (only registered voters receive ballots). We’re updating the link on #realDonaldTrump’s tweet to make this more clear.”
Do you agree with Snapchat discontinuing promotion of the President’s account? With voting underway in many states, do you believe this will hurt his re-election for a second term? Let us know in the comments.
