Rohan Marley Apologizes To His & Lauryn Hill’s Daughter Selah For Childhood Trauma She Endured In His Absence: I Will Be The Best Dad I Can Be
Update #2 (8/12/20): Rohan Marley is coming forward, apologizing for his part in any childhood trauma his daughter endured as a result of his absence. Roughly a day after she opened up about him not being a part of her life, he released a statement and said:
“I love her very much and do apologize for any contributions I may have added by arguing in front of her as a child. I’ve grown as a man, a spiritual being and a father. I am constantly growing and will teach my children to always take the higher road in any disagreements.
I will be there for her no matter how many hours, days, months or years it will take. I will be the best Dad that I can be. One Love.”
Original Story (8/11/20): Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley’s, daughter Selah Marley is coming forward with claims her mother was on “some slavery sh*t when raising her.” During a 2-hour video on Instagram, she also touched on the absence of her father in her life. Lauryn Hill has a total of six children, five of her kids are with Rohan Marley, a former football star and also the son of music legend Bob Marley.
While she praises how much of an amazing woman her mother Lauryn Hill is, she also says that she was “angry.” Adding that she lived with her grandmother “half the time.”
“My mom is an amazing woman, but she obviously didn’t do everything right. She was just very angry. So, so, so, so, so, so angry. She was literally not easy to talk to and then half the time we didn’t live with her. I lived with my grandparents half the time… It’s crazy, I’m playing this trauma back in my head as I speak to you.”
During the candid chat, Selah Marley compared her mother’s form of punishment to “some slavery sh*t,” saying that she was often threatened accompanied by belt beatings.
“And then the threats, the constant threats… That belt man. That’s that slave sh*t. That was some slavery sh*t. All Black parents were on that sh*t.”
Selah Marley also recalled words her mom would say to her to incite fear.
“You want me to embarrass you? You want me to give you something to cry about?”
She added,
“I’m not mad at a little discipline, but what can a five-year-old do? What can a seven-year-old do?”
During the chat, Selah Marley, 21, also opened up about having severe daddy issues, because of her father not being present growing up.
“Honestly guys, I’m just hurting. I can’t even front that I’m not. I’ve been hurting for so much of my life and so much of my life has been me avoiding how much I’m really hurting just from the circumstances.”
“I have a form of split personality to some degree, I mean not to like you know diagnose myself, but just a form of split because it’s like, a part of me stopped growing at the age that my dad left. Whenever that stopped, I feel like something just stopped or maybe it never grew, it never developed… especially when it comes to men, like males in my life. They bring out this dark, dark, dark thing inside of me because I feel like I need them…like I hurt them because I’m mad at them, because I’m mad at my father for not being around but I need them because I don’t have a father so I need someone…
She later shared a cryptic message on Instagram and stated,
NO MUD NO LOTUS THO MOTHERF***ER. i am grateful for all he pain that I’ve experienced & the mistakes that I’ve made (i am deeply sorry to anyone i have hurt) because i WILL come out of this on top (of my lower self) & i can’t wait to see me blossom because i just know that’s gonna be one pretty a** flower. cool beans. see u later. goodnight. we’ll check in tm. love you all. thank you for your endless love light guidance, wisdom, and support. you are cherished.”
