RZA Created A New Ice Cream Truck Jingle To Replace The Old One Because ‘It Has Racist Roots’
Out with the old and in with the new, it looks like we’re getting an improved ice cream truck theme song to replace the one we’re all familiar with. American rapper and Wu-Tang Clan member RZA teamed up with Good Humor to create a new ice cream truck song. The purpose of this is to replace the original song, Turkey in the Straw, which has a racist background. Turkey in the Straw was changed to N*gger Wants a Watermelon, which features discriminatory lyrics and uses the n-word more than once within the song.
RZA broke the news of the new ice cream truck jingle and said,
“Remember that ice cream jingle? Of course — we all know it. I’m not gonna play it right now because we come to find out that it has racist roots. But check this out – Good Humor, they called me up and they was like ‘We gotta do something about this RZA. We gotta change the dynamics. We can make a new ice cream jingle for a new era.’”
He added,
“We wanted to make a melody that includes all communities; that’s good for every driver, every kid.”
RZA also shared that the new jingle will be available to ice cream truck drivers everywhere.
“And I’m proud to say, for the first time in a long time, a new ice cream truck jingle will be made available to trucks all across the country in perpetuity! That means forever, you know like Wu-Tang is forever.”
The new ice cream truck song will be released for free and will also be added to industry-standard ice-cream truck music boxes.
