Toni Braxton Says She Could Only Do A Verzuz Against Mariah Carey Or Mary J. Blige
As the conversation of who will take on the Verzuz challenge next continues, Toni Braxton said there are only two fellow R&B legends she could see herself going against in the virtual battle.
While speaking to Missy Elliott for Interview magazine, Toni Braxton said:
Yeah, I can’t. I’m like, ‘It would have to be me, Mariah [Carey] or Mary J. [Blige] or something.’ Us girls from the ’90s. But no, I haven’t put it on the register to do it yet. I know they’ve called you, too.”
Fans and Verzuz co-creators Swizz Beatz and Timbaland have been pushing for Missy Elliott to take on a challenge since its inception. But she’s had little to no interest, despite being one of the first people they called.
Still, she added she’d do if it were “Missy versus Misdemeanor.”
She continued:
“But it’s just for the fun of it. I could name a bunch of people just for us to have fun, because I’m going in all my bags.”
If the ladies did decide to move forward with a Verzuz, they would certainly be in good company. The most recent artists to grace the stage were legendary singers Patti Labelle and Gladys Knight.
