Gospel Icon Bebe Winans Asked To ‘Educate’ Country Artist Morgan Wallen Following Him Using The N-Word

Performing rights organization BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.) has asked iconic gospel singer, Bebe Winans to reach out to country music artist, Morgan Wallen to ‘educate’ him and “to help him understand the gravity and impact of his words” following a racial slur incident. As previously reported, video footage surfaced online of Wallen saying the n-word. On Sunday (Jan.31), Morgan Wallen and his friends returned to his Tennessee home after a night out. While standing in his driveway Wallen appears to be drunk as he instructs one of his friends to help someone in the group. In the video, he says,

“Take care of this “p*ssy-a** motherf*cker”

He then adds,

“Take care of this p*ssy-a** n*****.”

Following the release of the video, the 27-year-old country music artist received immediate backlash. Many radio stations decided to pull his music from their playlist. Also, his contract with Big Loud Records was suspended “indefinitely” and he’s no longer eligible this year for consideration of winning any awards at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Wallen issued an apology on Tuesday (Feb.2) after the video footage went viral. Warren said,

“I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”

While BMI has condemned Morgan Wallen’s behavior, they claim that they are cannot legally follow suit. In a statement released by the organization, BMI said,

“BMI condemns the hateful and offensive racial slur recently used by Morgan Wallen. While unacceptable, under the terms of our consent decree, BMI is mandated to accept all songwriters who want to be a part of our organization.”

The organization went on to note that they have asked BMI’s advisor and gospel music legend, BeBe Winans to reach out to Morgan Wallen.

“We have asked BMI’s Advisor and Gospel legend, BeBe Winans, to reach out to Morgan to help him understand the gravity and impact of his words. Our hope is that BeBe’s outreach can help Morgan become a more inclusive and empathetic person.”
