Ruth E. Carter Will Be The 1st Black Costume Designer To Receive A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame
Ruth E. Carter is making history!
The famous costume designer, who has worked on projects like Jungle Fever, Do The Right Thing, and Malcolm X, is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She will become the first Black costume designer to receive the honor and the second costume designer overall. Costume designer Edith Head received her star in 1974.

The event will take place virtually on Feb. 25 at 11:30 a.m. PST.
Oprah Winfrey and Eddie Murphy will speak at the ceremony.

This isn’t the first history-making move for Ruth E. Carter. Her work on Marvel’s Black Panther earned her an Oscar Award, making her the first Black person to win in the category.
Her 30+ years in the industry continue as she is also the costume designer for the upcoming film Coming 2 America, scheduled to hit Amazon Prime on March 5.
