Akon’s Range Rover Stolen While He Was Pumping Gas In Atlanta
Akon is the latest celebrity to be the target of a crime.
The artist and producer’s Range Rover was stolen while he pumped gas at an Atlanta station, the city’s police department confirmed with a local Fox affiliate.
Police say he was on the passenger side of the SUV pumping gas when someone hopped in on the driver’s side and sped away. Akon wasn’t hurt.
The incident occurred at a QuikTrip gas station on the 700 block of Sydney and Marcus Boulevard just after midnight this morning (May 25th).
Police urged drivers not to leave their cars running while pumping gas.
Capt. Graham of the Atlanta Police Department said in a statement,
“It only takes a second for someone to jump in your vehicle and take off.”
The car was later found in Forest Park, Georgia thanks to the Find My iPhone app.
The move comes after a member of the Atlanta City Council proposed a law that would call for Atlanta gas stations to put cameras on their pumps.
Councilwoman Natalyn Archibong said this is a necessary move as security cameras at gas stations hasn’t stopped crimes.
“It is a common occurrence. It is not an anomaly. It is a significant enough crime and a consistent enough crime that it warrants this intervention.”
Akon hasn’t publicly commented on the incident.
