Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot Sued For Only Doing Interviews With Non-White Reporters
Did Lori Lightfoot racially discriminate against news reporters?
According to reports, Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot is being sued over her new interview policy that she announced last week. On May 19th, Lori Lightfoot announced that–to celebrate her two-year inauguration–she would exclusively grant one-on-one interviews with reporters who are people of color. She claimed that this policy would only be
“on the occasion of [her] two-year anniversary [as mayor].”
Additionally, she admitted that she was urged to do so upon recognizing the predominately white and male news presence in Chicago.

Here are some close-ups of the most relevant portions of the letter:

In response to Lori Lightfoot‘s announcement, right-wing journalist Thomas Catenacci has filed a lawsuit claiming that her policy is discriminatory. Additionally, he claims that his Equal Protection rights are being violated, as well as his First Amendment rights (specifically freedom of the press).
Thomas Catenacci, who is a reporter for The Daily Caller (a self-proclaimed conservative news outlet), allegedly sent Lightfoot an interview request on May 20. He then allegedly proceeded to follow up on the request twice over the next few days. After never hearing back from Lightfoot, the right-wing reporter reportedly discovered she granted an interview to a Latino journalist–which prompted his lawsuit.
Lori Lightfoot has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
