Tory Lanez Says Those Who Deserted Him Over His Shooting Scandal W/ Megan Thee Stallion Were Protecting Their Brand, Claims They’ll Return To His Side Once They Know The Alleged Truth
Tory Lanez is sharing his thoughts on people who separated themselves from him after he was accused of shooting Megan Thee Stallion.
He recently appeared on an episode of Million Dollaz Worth of Game, and his shooting scandal with Megan Thee Stallion quickly came up.
As you may recall, Megan Thee Stallion accused Tory Lanez of shooting her in the foot while partying in the Hollywood Hills last summer. In the aftermath of the incident, Tory Lanez was charged with felony assault, though he pleaded not guilty. Despite his claims of being not guilty, Tory Lanez has faced backlash from many individuals, including some in the music industry.
With the backlash against Tory Lanez on his mind, co-host Gillie Da King sought to get the artist’s input on the situation. During their interview, Gillie Da King stated:
“I know you seen a lot of n***as in the rap game–maybe not in the rap game–that you thought… ‘me and this n***a good. This my man. I f**k with him…’ Then you went through what you went through. Without any facts being out, without any proof being out of what happened, n***as just jumped ship on you. Just switched sides on you. You calling n***as, n***as ain’t picking your [calls] up no more. I know n***as got on all kinds of funny s**t.”
In response, Tory Lanez claimed that a lot of other artists’ responses had to do with branding and public image. He said:
“Well, that’s the thing. It’s not really in a personal [way that] you didn’t answer my call or anything. But I do understand something about business. Gotta understand, people have brands. Before I look at Tory Lanez like it’s me, Tory Lanez is a brand. [Every] artist is their brand. At the moment, it wasn’t the look for them to put their brand on it.”
Tory Lanez continued:
“For me, it’s like when it comes down to artists, I still understand the business side of it. So I never really hold friction there. It’s like, ‘eh,’ you know? When things get right, you’ll be alright. And just like now, I’ve been living a regular life and people coming back and taking pictures and smiling. But eight months ago, that might have not been the move… Even the people who came out and said [something] about me, a lot of them–after the fact or after the music came out or whatever–still called me. Still hit me like ‘yo, I still f**k with you, it’s just at the time xyz.'”
Later in the interview, Tory Lanez speculated that–once the public learns the alleged truth of the incident–many will be “bust[ing] a U-turn.” He stated:
“I focus on the people that show me love… I’m not gonna focus on n***as hating on me or being negative. It’s like ‘cool.’ I just know in time, when things happen and go the way they’re supposed to go, you’ll be somebody who busts a U-turn, and it’s fine. At that time I’ll still forgive you. I won’t forget what happened, but I’ll forgive you. That’s life–that’s my character. N***a can’t break that out of me, no matter what.”
