Elaine Welteroth Claims Sharon Osbourne Was ‘Set Up’ On ‘The Talk’ In Leaked Audio, Later Issues Statement: None Of Us Wanted That Day To Go How It Did
It appears as though Elaine Welteroth was there for her now-former co-star–Sharon Osbourne–during her controversy on The Talk.
This past Wednesday (July 14th), leaked audio of Elaine Welteroth consoling Sharon Osbourne after her on-air confrontation on The Talk surfaced. As you may recall, Sharon Osbourne was accused of defending alleged racist comments made by Piers Morgan. She and Sheryl Underwood got into a heated discussion regarding the topic. Sharon Osbourne has since left the show.

In the recently-revealed audiotape obtained by The Daily Mail, Elaine Welteroth reassures Sharon that she is not a racist. Additionally, she alleges that Sharon was “set up”:
“Sheryl is your friend. She really is your friend. She doesn’t think you’re racist. I don’t think you’re racist. No one who knows you would ever say that or think that.”
She continued:
“They literally made her ask that question. And I thought that she was setting it up in way so that you knew… I assumed that you guys had had a pre-conversation so that you were on the same page… It felt like we were all set up–particularly you–but I also felt set up because I was like sitting there and Sheryl goes, ‘What would you like to say?’ I’m like… ‘What the f**k? I don’t have nothing to say. Why are we having this conversation right now?'”
Her sentiments largely align with those expressed by Sharon Osbourne, who claimed she was “blindsided” by the incident and set up by producers.
Since the audio was leaked, Elaine Welteroth has issued a statement on the matter. She told Entertainment Tonight yesterday (July 15th),
“None of us wanted that day to go how it did and I do not regret sharing these feelings in a private conversation with a colleague.”
She also shut down previous reports that she issued a complaint to Human Resources about Sharon.
“To set the record straight, I never filed a complaint with HR against Sharon Osbourne or anyone else.”
She added,
“I am disheartened, however, that I was recorded without my consent and that my kindness has been taken out of context and weaponized in an attempt to absolve responsibility for someone else’s actions.”
She concluded,
“I was honored to join The Talk to add my voice to important and lively conversations. I am so excited about the next chapter with our new co-host Jerry O’Connell and I am grateful for the new perspectives he will bring to the show.”
