Lil Baby Doesn’t Post About Social Issues Because ‘Something I Say Might Get Misinterpreted’
Lil Baby’s song The Bigger Picture garnered double-platinum status this week and two Grammy nods earlier this year. Now, he’s explaining why he speaks about controversial topics in his music, and not on social media.
In The Bigger Picture, Lil Baby raps about police brutality and social issues. While it was widely related to George Floyd’s tragic killing, Lil Baby told MSNBC recently,
“I wasn’t gonna make just a George Floyd song. I mentioned what kind of happened in the song a little bit, but it was the whole [experience].”
He added,
“It wasn’t just that incident because it was bigger than that incident. Not saying that incident was not bigger than other incidents, but it was just my chance to speak on the whole thing.”
Still, he explained why he created the song, pointing out that he doesn’t speak on social issues on the internet.
“I’m not into social media like that…I don’t really catch what’s going on or what people are saying. At the time, everythig going on, people like ‘Baby don’t say othing.’ I don’t really wanna just speak on situations, especially when I don’t know the whole backstory, then something I say gets misinterpreted. So, I’m quiet as far as me posting.”

He added:
“I speak through my art. I’m not gonna be a George Floyd advocate only… It’s deeper than that with me. I know people, personally, who got killed by the police. That would be fake of me to just post about this when I ain’t even post about somebody I know who is going through this ’cause I ain’t ready to attack this like that.”
“Posting don’t really do nothing for the situation. But I get it, people follow me now…”
