Donald Glover’s ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith Series’ To Recast Phoebe Waller-Bridge After Creative Differences Caused Her Exit
Phoebe Waller-Bridge will no longer star as the lead in the Amazon remake of the 2005 film Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The 36-year-old Emmy winner was set to star alongside Donald Glover but it looks like the series is now searching for a new female lead.
Reportedly, inside sources say that Phoebe Waller-Bridge had a,
“different vision” for the series but “Waller-Bridge and Glovee remain friends following what was described as an amicable split.”
According to reports, Donald Glover came up with the idea to adapt the movie into a series. The movie originally starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. This time the 37-year-old will take on the lead male role and co-create the series.
Pheobe Waller-Bridge is most known for creating and starring in the BBC comedy series Fleabag and will continue to have her own projects developed with Amazon. Even though she walked away from this project, she is currently in production for Indiana Jones 5 and has contributed to the upcoming James Bond film, No Time to Die.

Donald Glover will still star in the Mr. & Mrs. Smith series and it will be a part of the overall deal he signed with Amazon in February. He’ll also be working on Hive, a potential series that’s speculated to be centered around a Beyoncé-like figure. As previously reported, Malia Obama has been recruited to work on the series as well.
