Chadwick Boseman–Marvel Exec. Reveals Development Team Couldn’t Bring Themselves To Recast T’Challa For ‘Black Panther’ Sequel: The Character Is Tied To His Performance
Marvel is standing firm on is decision to not recast T’Challa with another actor following Chadwick Boseman‘s death.
When discussing the Black Panther franchise, one’s mind can instantly go to Chadwick Boseman. The actor–who played T’Challa in the 2018 film–tragically passed away last year, and the franchise decided to not recast the character.

Yesterday (Monday, Nov. 15th), Nate Moore–Marvel’s Vice President of Development–dished on the decision to not recast T’Challa for the upcoming sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. He stated:
“I’m being quite honest. You will not see T’Challa in the [future Marvel] universe. We couldn’t do it.”
Nate Moore continued:
“When Chad passed, it was a real conversation we had with [director Ryan] Coogler about ‘What do we do?’ And it was a fast conversation… We had to figure out how to move that franchise on without that character. Because I think we all feel so much of T’Challa in the [Marvel Cinematic Universe] on the screen… is tied to Chadwick’s performance.”
“The challenge for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ is telling a story without T’Challa. I think it’s a challenge we’re up for. So far, what we’re getting is great. As filmmakers and storytellers, you have to figure out how people are going to feel going into your movie and what you want that movie to say about that guy who’s not going to be in it.”
