Oprah, Rihanna, Beyoncé & Ava DuVernay Among List Of ‘Most Powerful Women’
The Forbes list for the world’s most powerful women looked a little more vibrant this year.
Forbes recently unveiled its World’s 100 Most Powerful Women list. Some familiar faces managed to snag a couple of spots on the list for this year’s edition.
Oprah Winfrey came in at #23, Rihanna at #68, Beyoncé at #76, and director Ava DuVernay at #80.
While they’ve made some remarkable accomplishments, there are other black women who made the list–and made millions.
Walgreens CEO Rosalind Brewer received the highest ranking out of all the black women listed at #17. Rosalind, 58, attended Spelman College in 1980 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. She now resides in Washington with her husband and has 2 children.
Thasunda Brown Duckett, CEO of The Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America-College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA), was #45. Thasunda, 48, is a Rochester native who attended the University of Houston. She received a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Marketing. In the pasts, she’s been a CEO for Chase Consumer Banking, and served on the board of directors of Nike.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, 67, was ranked at #91. She has a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a Doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. For over 30 years, she has been an economist and international development professional with experience in places like Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and North America.
Samia Suluhu Hassan, 61, came in at #94. She is the president of Tanzania, and the sixth person to hold the title.
Lastly, Mo Abudu, 57, was #98. Mo is a Nigerian Media Mogul and Philanthropist. She founded Ebonylife TV (ELTV) in 2006. ELTV is a television networked that has been picked up in over 49 countries throughout Africa, along with the UK and the Caribbean.
