YoungBoy Never Broke Again Court Date Set For Gun Charges

More than a year after Louisiana rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again was arrested on gun charges, a court date has finally been set. The rapper, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, was arrested in September of 2020, with 15 others on gun and drug charges while filming a music video in his hometown of Baton Rouge. YoungBoy Never Broke Again, 22, will head to court to fight those charges on May 16. He has pleaded not guilty and remains on house arrest at the time of this writing.

The news of his court date arrives days after a ruling to suppress video evidence that allegedly showed YoungBoy Never Broke Again, also known as NBA Youngboy, brandishing weapons. The footage was reportedly found on SD memory cards that U.S. District Court Chief Judge Shelly Dick said were searched improperly. Dick also said the search warrant that police conducted was “invalid.”

NBA’s attorney Drew Findling reacted to the ruling in a statement. Findling said:

We’re 100 percent convinced of his innocence, and now we have to continue to evaluate our strategy. The unconstitutionality of law enforcement was clearly evident to the court and resulted in a slew of evidence being thrown out. We’re looking forward to going to court.

Since breaking out with his 2018 song “Outside Today,” NBA’s career has been dogged by legal issues and drama.

Yaya, Lapattra

Notably, he was at the center of a fight in April of 2020, between his on-off girlfriend Yaya Mayweather and another woman, Lapattra Lashai Jacobs, during which Yaya Mayweather allegedly stabbed Lapattra Lashai Jacobs. Yaya Mayweather pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial.

Lil Durk

The rapper also made headlines recently for his back-and-forth with Chicago rapper Lil Durk. The feud took an ugly turn in November 2020 when Lil Durk associate King Von was shot and killed by a member of NBA affiliate Quando Rondo‘s team, but that has not stopped the two from taking shots at one another.
