Tasha K Files Appeal Against Cardi B Verdict, Blogger Hopes New Docs Will Reveal Rapper’s True ‘Character’
Tasha K is not letting up on the defamation verdict against Cardi B.
In 2019, Grammy-award winner Cardi B filed a lawsuit against YouTuber Tasha K (real name Latasha Kebe) over what her lawyers called a “malicious campaign” to tarnish Cardi B’s reputation. Months ago, Cardi B (real name Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar) won a $4 million judgment and Tasha K, 40, was held liable for defamation, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. As previously reported, as part of her repercussions Tasha was ultimately ordered to remove the defamatory videos she posted online about Cardi, 29.
On Jan 25, Tasha K’s lawyers released a statement about the verdict:
“We disagree with the verdict, and we will be filing an appeal.”

The YouTuber wasn’t lying. Her attorneys are launching their appeal in hopes of getting the ruling overturned. Her lawyers argued that the jury didn’t get to see the rapper’s “true self” because the judge held back evidence about Cardi B’s “character.”
During the trial, the judge ruled that the evidence presented could be prejudicial against Cardi. Tasha’s attorneys argued that evidence about Cardi’s “character” should be able to be presented in a case centered on possible harm to the rapper’s reputation.

Tasha’s attorneys wrote in the court documents:
“The jury heard a very lopsided presentation of evidence and, because they did not get to learn who the plaintiff truly is, the jury returned a general verdict for the Plaintiff, against both Defendants.”
Tasha’s attorneys also argued that the rapper’s lawyers failed to prove that the Youtuber acted in “actual malice,” when posting videos about Cardi.
Tasha’s attorney added:
“There was no evidence that any of Ms. Kebe’s stories about Plaintiff were fabricated by Ms. Kebe, were a product of Ms. Kebe’s imagination, were based wholly on an unverified anonymous call, or were so inherently improbable that only a reckless person would have put them in circulation.”
Cardi’s attorneys have not responded to the opening brief but will eventually make a statement in the days to come.
