Tennis star Serena Williams is headed to Wimbledon!
News that the 23-time Grand Slam winning tennis champ would be participating in the tournament came early today (June 14th), as it was announced the Serena Williams received a wild card entry for singles to the All England Club event.

The tournament, beginning June 27th, will be the first tennis match for the 40-year-old athlete since her 2021 hamstring injury rendered her unable to compete.
Serena took to her instagram account to confirm the news. In a post showing only her feet on a green grass playing court, she wrote:
“SW and SW19. It’s a date. 2022 See you there. Let’s Go #renasarmy”

Previously, it was speculated that the G.O.A.T. tennis star would not be competing in this years tournament. Serena failed to qualify for the championship match, and reportedly didn’t appear on the rankings list released by Grand Slam earlier this month. However, it seems her esteemed tennis record garnered an invitation to play despite. Serena was one of seven other invitees who received the wild card entry for the upcoming Wimbledon competition.
Should Serena successfully secure another Grand Slam win, it would tie her with Margaret Court ,who currently holds the record for most (24) GS wins by a man or woman. We are rooting for Serena’s success!
