‘Euphoria’ Star Sydney Sweeney Shares That Despite The Success Of Her HBO Series, She Does Not Have Enough Income To Cover A Six-Month Break From Work
This may come as a surprise to Euphoria fans, but Sydney Sweeney cannot afford to take six months off from work.
Despite the success and positive reviews of the hit HBO drama, Sydney Sweeney still finds herself dealing with both financial and career insecurities. During a recent interview, she said,
“If I wanted to take a six-month break, I don’t have income to cover that. I don’t have someone supporting me, I don’t have anyone I can turn to, to pay my bills or call for help. … They don’t pay actors like they used to, and with streamers, you no longer get residuals. The established stars still get paid, but I have to give 5 percent to my lawyer, 10 percent to my agents, 3 percent or something like that to my business manager. I have to pay my publicist every month, and that’s more than my mortgage.”
According to Sydney Sweeney, there is a lot of publicity that comes with being an actress, and the high costs associated with styling, tailoring, hair and makeup and travel is what made her start taking multiple brand deals. She’s accepted positions as a Miu Miu ambassador and starred in an Armani beauty campaign. She said,
“If I just acted, I wouldn’t be able to afford my life in L.A. I take deals because I have to.”
Sweeney, 24, plays the role of sweet and popular Cassie Howard on the Emmy-nominated series. Fans watch as her character navigates through life as a teenager struggling with family issues and insecurities. The show also stars actor and singer Zendaya, Maude Apatow, Angus Cloud, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Storm Reid and Hunter Schafer.
According to HBO Max’s official description of the show,
“Euphoria follows a group of high school students as they navigate love and friendships in a world of drugs, sex, trauma and social media.”
