R&B Singer B. Smyth Passes Away Following Battle w/ Pulmonary Fibrosis [CONDOLENCES]

Sad news!

R&B singer B. Smyth, full name Brandon Smith, has passed away at the age of 28 after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

The “Might Cuff U” singer’s older brother, Denzil, revealed the heartbreaking news to fans on Thursday (Nov. 17) in a video posted to B.Smyth’s Instagram page. In part, he shared,

“I have some sad sad news, today my brother passed away, earlier this morning to be exact. He passed away [due to] a fight that he was having with a lung condition.”

He continued,

“I’m making this video on behalf of my family, we just ask right now in this particular moment that you guys respect our wishes for privacy. We accept all the love and condolences on his behalf. Everything is…it’s a tough time right now.”

During the video, Denzil also shared that in his final months, B. Smyth consistently talked “about how much he loved his fans” and “how much his fans loved him.” Denzil noted that his little brother’s latest single “Twerkaholic, Pt.2,” which dropped three weeks ago, actually was released while B. Smyth was in the ICU at the hospital.

He added that the family is finalizing funeral details but they’re aiming to have a virtual viewing option so fans not located in the state of Florida will be able to give their final goodbyes to B. Smyth.

In the caption for the post, Denzil wrote,

“Today regretfully I have to announce that my brother has passed away this morning from respiratory failure after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. My brother was very excited to see a lot of you create challenges for his latest released single #Twerkoholic part 2 while he was in the ICU, it really brought him a big smile to his face.”

He added,

“So on behalf of my brother and my family we want to say thank you to all of you for all of your love & support throughout the years. We ask for privacy during these difficult times.
We also want to say thank you for all of your prayers.”

According to reports, B. Smyth first started to gain attention in the early 2010s after dropping covers for hit songs such as “Quickie” by Miguel or “Stay” by Rihanna. In 2012 he signed with Motown Records and soon after his first single, “Leggo” featuring 2 Chainz, was released. In 2013 he then dropped his first EP “The Florida Files.”

However, it wasn’t until 2014 that his stardom was taken to an entirely new level when his song “Twerkoholic” became a big hit.
