There won’t be any new episodes of NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ for the time being.

According to reports, the recent writers’ strike in Hollywood has shut down a variety of late-night shows, and ‘Saturday Night Live’ just so happens to be one of them.

If you hadn’t heard, rapper Lil Uzi Vert was scheduled to make his musical debut on the famed sketch series for this Saturday (May 6) and comedian Pete Davidson had been tapped to take over the hosting duties.

This would have marked Pete Davidson’s (brief) return to ‘SNL,’ as he left his slot as a full-time cast member last year. However, the satire production has pulled the plug on its forthcoming calendar and will only air re-runs until further notice.

The unfortunate news comes subsequent to the 11,000+ members of the Writers Guild of America’s controversial walkout (seemingly) due to studios’ unfair negotiation with screenwriters in the union. Reportedly, this is the industry’s first strike since 2007.

A statement from the initiative read:

“The companies’ behavior had created a gig economy inside a union workforce, and their immovable stance in this negotiation has betrayed a commitment to further devaluing the profession of writing.”

It continued,

“From their refusal to guarantee any level of weekly employment in episodic television to the creation of a ‘day rate’ in comedy variety, to their stonewalling on free work for screenwriters and on AI for all writers, they have closed the door on their labor force and opened the door to writing an entirely freelance profession.”

Along with the halt of ‘Saturday Night Live,’ many other TV shows were also placed on pause, including; ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,’ ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live,’ and ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.’
