Political Activist Cornel West Announces 2024 Presidential Run: ‘I Enter In The Quest For Justice’

Cornel West has officially announced that he is running for President as a third-party candidate for the People’s Party.

Earlier today (June 5), political activist Cornel West, 70, took to Twitter to formally announce that he will be running for the presidential election in 2024. In the nearly three-minute video announcement, the academic scholar stated,

“In these bleak times, I have decided to run for truth and justice, which takes the form of running for president of the United States as a candidate for the People’s Party.”

Cornel West continued,

“I enter in the quest for truth, I enter in the quest for justice, and the presidency is just one vehicle to pursue that truth and justice – what I’ve been trying to do all of my life.”

At one point during the clip, West explained why he is running for president and expressed that he cares about the well-being and quality of life of citizens in the United States.

“I care about whether you have assets to a job with a living wage, decent housing, women having control over their bodies, healthcare for all, deescalating the destruction of the planet, the destruction of American democracy.”

Later in the clip, West took a moment to encourage voters to go out and participate when the election comes back around. He went on,

“We’re not talking about hating anybody, we’re talking about loving, we’re talking about affirming, we’re talking about empowering those who have been pushed to the margins. Because neither political party wants to tell the truth about Wall Street, about Ukraine, about the Pentagon, about Big Tech.”

The campaign video also included a clip of West explaining how the two main options voters have — Democrat vs. Republican — are limited to former U.S. President Donald Trump and current President of the U.S. Joe Biden. He said,

“Neofascists like brother Trump or milquetoast neoliberals like brother Biden. Wow, I’m so happy to make a world shaking decision.”

West is reportedly the latest Black candidate to enter the 2024 presidential race. The author is known for his academic activism and is a former professor of the practice of public philosophy at Harvard University.
His work focuses on the role of race, gender, and class in American society, according to reports.
