Keke Palmer Details Journey To Accepting Her Sexuality: ‘I Guess You Just Get To A Point Where I Want My Life To Be My Own Life’

Keke Palmer dances to the beat of her own drum, especially when it comes to her sexuality.

During an appearance on The Best Podcast Ever with Raven and Miranda — hosted by Raven-Symoné and her wife — Keke Palmer, 29, shared the moment she came to terms with her sexuality and decided to “explore her life” after years of concealing who she truly was.

Keke Palmer said,

“There was a moment in my life where I was like ya know, can I be myself? The moment where you overthink sh*t. That’s not even me, why am I overthinking this? I guess you just get to the point where I want my life to be my own life.”

The actress/businesswoman, who has previously expressed her desire to not categorize her sexuality, said she didn’t “live out” experiences because she kept her sexuality a secret from her family.

Palmer continued,

“There is like an unsaid thing that can make you feel — and because I liked guys too, I was kinda like, ‘Well, we don’t have to talk about it.'”

Palmer told the podcast hosts she accepted her feelings at the age of 17. And on the journey to learning about her true self, her family accepted her too. The KeyTV CEO said her parents “never cared” about her sexuality and have always been accepting and supportive.

She said,

“Sexuality and stuff like that, that was not even — my parents never even cared about something like that or talked about that. And I know that by the time they saw how free of a spirit I was, and whoever I wanted to date, they were like, ‘Whoever cares.’ It was never anything that was in their mind.”

Palmer added,

“I ultimately just feel like the acceptance of that part of myself, in general, was a part of my process of being able to have love in my life.”

Palmer is now a mom to four-month-old son Leo, whom she shares with Darius Jackson. The new parents recently sparked controversy after Jackson publicly blasted Palmer for the attire she wore to Usher‘s residency in Las Vegas.

He initially asserted that Palmer‘s fashionable outfit — a black bodysuit with a sheer overlay — was inappropriate because she is a mother. Jackson later doubled down on his opinion, saying,

“We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is. This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe. I rest my case.”

Jackson eventually deactivated his social media accounts, and when he returned, all photos of Palmer had been wiped from his Instagram page.
