Selena Gomez Debunks Rumors That Her New Song Is About Ex-Boyfriend The Weeknd: ‘Couldn’t Be More False’
Despite Selena Gomez (allegedly) having a few ill feelings toward her old boo, The Weeknd, she isn’t singing songs about him.
Singer/actress Selena Gomez recently took to social media to shut down claims that her latest hit is a diss toward The Weeknd.

Selena Gomez
Under a popular blog site’s Instagram post about the matter, she simply replied,
“[It] couldn’t be more false.”
As you may know, last week, Selena Gomez released a new track titled “Single Soon,” where she boasts about breaking up with her boyfriend and going partying with her friends.
While Gomez and The Weeknd have been broken up for quite a while now (since 2017, to be exact), fans pointed out a few (suspected) references in the lyrics.
In one of the verses of the bop, she says,
“Should I do it on the phone? Should I leave a little note? In the pocket of his coat? Yeah! Maybe I’ll just disappear. I don’t wanna see a tear. And the weekend’s almost here.”
Most attributed the word “tear” and the name mention to The Weeknd’s “Save Your Tears,” which was reportedly about Gomez. The pair dated for a total of 10 months, with a highly-publicized connection that was often deemed “#relationshipgoals” by paparazzi.

The Weeknd
Additionally, many linked Gomez’s new song to The Weeknd due to allegations that she wasn’t too fond of his HBO drama, ‘The Idol,’ where the main character has strikingly similar traits to her real life.
The series follows fictional popstar Jocelyn and her dynamic relationship with a guy named Tedros (portrayed by the show’s co-creator, The Weeknd, himself) after she has a nervous breakdown on tour.
If you didn’t know, previously, Gomez has been very vocal about her battle with mental health over the years. Jocelyn’s situation was parallel to the 31-year-old, who also had to cancel her road run after having to enter a psychiatric facility in 2016.
Throughout the show, viewers noticed similar mannerisms and situations that mirrored Gomez’s career as well.

Last month, a source close to Gomez shared with an outlet,
“The similarities between Selena’s life and Jocelyn’s life are just uncanny. Being [that] she actually dated The Weeknd, it is even more creepy for her. Her real-life pain was used for entertainment value and that really irks her out.”
They added:
“Everyone in [Selena’s] team who has known her for a very long time is dumbfounded by this, but at the end of the day Selena is going to do what she always does–rise above and move on.”
