Terrell Owens Opens Up About How Being “Teased” & “Rejected” By Black Women Made Him Gravitate Towards Dating White Women: ‘There Was A Lot Of Self-Esteem Issues’

Former NFL star Terrell Owens is getting candid about his past dating struggles.

While speaking to fellow former athlete Chad Ochocinco, the wide receiver revealed how he developed self esteem problems while trying to connect romantically with women of his race.

Speaking about his “not good” dating history with Black girls, the 49-year-old explained:

“My experiences with Black women growing up wasn’t so good…When I started dating white girls- my first experience with white girls was when I went to college. I tried to date some Black girls when I was in college. They did not like me. I was skinny, I was scrawny, I was teased from high school even to college, I got teased for being dark-skinned. So there was a lot of self-esteem issues.”

He continued:

“When I got my opportunity, my first experience with a white girl, it wasn’t bad. But I just totally gravitated to white girls after that. That wasn’t the situation. So again, my experiences with Black women growing up wasn’t so good. But that still didn’t deter me from still dating or pursuing Black girls.”

Though the hall of famer had a tough time dating Black women younger, it seems his taste certainly varied as he got older. While Ownens‘ ex wife Rachel Snider, who he was married to for a year to back in 2014, along with a few other rumored girlfriend were white women, the football player has been romantically linked to a number of notable women of color. A few Black stars the sports professional has been rumored to have dated include Sanaa Lathan, Lisa Leslie, Jessica White, and Vivica Fox. There were even whispers that Owens dated “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kenya Moore back in 2010.

Even more so, the three mother’s of Owens four children are also diverse. If you recall the athlete appeared on an episode of Dr. Phil with the women over a decade ago to discuss his role as a father in the kids lives. The women, named Kimber, Monique and Melanie are seemingly comprised of two white women and one Black woman. Owens further explained during his chat with Ochocinco how his mindset about dating evolved as he got older.

He continued:

“For me now, where I am, it’s not even about color, it’s not even about race. For me, it’s about somebody that I have some chemistry with, good energy, and I get a good vibe with. That’s where I am,”

Adding:

“We all want somebody that we can roll over and wake up to that looks pleasing to the eye. Everybody’s experiences have been different. For me, when I grew up, my high school…I attempted to date Black girls. When I was younger, I wasn’t as handsome as I am now. I didn’t have this beautiful smile as I have now. I was a late bloomer. And when I bloomed, boy did I bloom.”
