Don Lemon Marries Longtime Partner Tim Malone Following 5 Year Engagement: ‘I Never Thought It Could Happen’

Congratulations are in order for former CNN news anchor Don Lemon!

The 58-year-old recently exchanged marriage vows with his longtime partner Tim Malone, and shared how he once believed wedding bells would never be apart of his future.

Reportedly, Don Lemon and Tim Malone shared their I do’s in a traditional church ceremony held in New York this past Saturday (April 6th). The star studded event was attended by numerous celebs, including actor Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria, famed music exec Clive Davis, as well The View co-hosts Sara Haines, Ana Navarro-Cárdenas and Sunny Hostin among others. The grooms donned complimentary custom suits while pledging their lives to each other in front of their 140 guests, and emphasized the importance of having a traditional ceremony that would make a bold statement.

In a prior interview, Malone, 40, opened up about wanting the event to not only be for the grooms and their families, but also to serve as a beacon of light to other members of the LGBTQ community. He reportedly explained:

“We wanted to make a public statement…and we wanted to involve our loved ones. We obviously could have easily gone to city hall. We could have used Covid as a perfect excuse to do something really quiet. But I think this is also a message. For I don’t know what percent of our guests, on both sides, but for a lot of them it’s going to be their first gay wedding.”

Lemon confirmed the importance of the gesture, sharing that he once believed he would never have the chance to get married. He expalined:

“I never thought that I would get married…I mean, maybe Tim’s generation, he’s 18 years younger than me. So for him maybe it was more of a possibility.”

And continued,

“The legal part of it is a big deal because I didn’t think it could happen. And for so many years of my growing up and hiding things, I never thought it could happen legally. But when you consider all the rights that people are trying to take away, I wanted to make sure that we get this done right.”

Lemon and Malone’s betrothal comes after a long 5 year engagement. Elsewhere in the interview, the news analyst also spoke to the importance of marriage to them as a couple, and what the ceremony truly means for them. He stated:

“[its] a confirmation of our love and our commitment to each other…it’s also about celebrating our relationship, and our relationship with the people who are most important to us in our lives.”
