UPDATE: O.J. Simpson Officially Cremated w/ No Plans Of Public Memorial + Was Only Strong Enough To Watch TV Golf & Ask For Water In His Final Days, Lawyer Says
Update (April 18, 2024): O.J. Simpson has officially been put to rest. The late controversial athlete was cremated at Palm Mortuary in downtown Las Vegas on Wednesday, April 17, the attorney over his estate confirmed to the Associated Press.
Lawyer Malcolm LaVergne added that he and others were there for the private moment. He said,
“I am able to verify that O.J. Simpson was cremated today. Others were present, but I’m not disclosing who.”
He added that there will not be a public memorial.
On Tuesday, April 16, LaVergne disclosed that he saw O.J. Simpson at his home just days before Easter and said he was “awake, alert and chilling” on the couch while drinking beer and ”catching up on the news.” In his final days, Lavergne was told that Simpson was “transitioning,” and he was only strong enough to ask for water and watch golf TV.
Original Story (April 15, 2024): New details surrounding O.J. Simpson’s final arrangements have been revealed.
On April 10, news broke that O.J. Simpson had passed away at the age of 76. At the time of his death, he was battling cancer. The executor of the late Heisman Trophy winner, Malcolm LaVergne, recently shared that O.J. Simpson’s family gave a hard no to scientists asking to study his brain for chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). He shared,
“With OJ everything’s wild, but I’ve been getting calls from medical centers that are doing CTE testing asking me for OJ’s brain . . . that is not happening.”
The Mayo Clinic defines CTE as,
“a brain disorder likely caused by repeated head injuries. It causes the death of nerve cells in the brain, known as degeneration. CTE gets worse over time. The only way to definitively [diagnose] CTE is after death during an autopsy of the brain.”
LaVergne also revealed in a separate statement that O.J. will be cremated and, as of now, arrangements for his funeral service have yet to be finalized.
“His entire body, his brain, everything, his fake hips, his fake knees, everything. That all goes into the crematorium.”
As previously reported, the public had drastically mixed reactions to O.J.’s passing. While some reflected on his many accomplishments throughout his sports career, others celebrated his death due to the infamous Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman murder case. O.J. was the prime suspect in their deaths but was ultimately found not guilty of the two murders.
