Juicy J Reveals He Gets Paid From 90% Of Modern Rap Songs Thanks To Sampling
Juicy J’s discography is the gift that keeps on giving!
During a recent chat with fellow rapper Wiz Khalifa for Spring Hill, Juicy J revealed that his body of work throughout his career, specifically speaking the records released with his hip hop group Three 6 Mafia, still brings him a hefty income today. In fact, Juicy J shared that he makes a profit from roughly 90% of modern rap songs due to newer artists consistently sampling from Three 6 Mafia’s discography.
When asked by Wiz Khalifa, 36, if he feels the need to keep up with new trends in the music industry, Juicy J, 49, candidly replied,
“I feel like the new trends is the old trends. Like, Three 6 Mafia because everybody’s sampling Three 6 Mafia, so I’m already in. Because we started the trends.”
Juicy J (@therealjuicyj) says he gets paid off 90% of the music that is out right now because of how many artists sample music from Three 6 Mafia — “I love when people sample.. every time I get that email, I approve.”

Opening up about how often artists reach out to sample his previous work, Juicy J continued,
“On some real sh*t, 5 to 6 sample [requests] a day. I get paid off of pretty much every song. Like 90% of the songs that are out right now.”
He continued,
“It’s a blessing. I love when people sample me. [I’m like] approved, approved. Every time I get that email, I approve. So I really don’t have to adapt to the trends because all the music sounds like flows from old Three 6 Mafia days, which I love, so I just keep doing what I’ve been doing.”
Juicy J is one of the founding members of Three 6 Mafia, which was first established in 1991. In 2006 the beloved group made history as the first rap group to win an Academy Award, taking home Best Original Song for “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp.”
