Update: Tory Lanez Speaks Out After Studio Equipment Is Confiscated In Cell Block Raid, Says ‘Higher Ups’ Know He’s A ‘Threat’
Update: (Sep 10, 2024): Tory Lanez seemingly feels like he’s being targeted while behind bars.
In a lengthy statement shared to his Instagram account moments ago, the Canadian rapper addressed his studio equipment being confiscated by prison guards, which has stopped his plans to release more music from prison. Lanez wrote,
“The rumors are true. ‘The Prison Tapes’ will be discontinued until further notice. However, I think it’s important that my fans know the truth about the crooked *ss sh*t that’s REALLY going on here. My cell was not raided and trashed because I learned how to record myself in prison or because I created ‘The Prison Tapes. I was shut down because the “HIGHER UPS” figured out what I was really doing with ‘The Prison Tapes’ and how many inmates were being helped in a life changing way because of them.”
Lanez noted that he’s witnessed inmates of color being mistreated since his 10-year prison stint kicked off last year. However, he believes he was placed behind bars to see for himself “firsthand the pain and oppression being inflicted” on those incarcerated.
The post continued,
“Although the “HIGHER UPS” have stopped ‘The Prison Tapes’ temporarily, they were too late to stop my overall plan. Since the month of July, l’ve afforded legal representation for 472 inmates and actively reopened 476 cases. … Lastly, they know I’m a threat and they don’t want me saying or doing this so if ANYTHING happens to me, just know I went out in the blaze of glory trying to revolutionize the end of a mass incarceration era on our people.”
Original Story: (Sep 9, 2024): Looks like Tory Lanez won’t be able to connect with his fans musically for the time being.
According to reports, prison guards recently raided Tory Lanez’s cell block and confiscated all of his studio equipment. Reportedly, prison officials let the Canadian rapper’s team know he’s not allowed to have recording devices behind bars.
As you may already know, Tory Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in the summer of 2020.
Lanez is incarcerated at the California Correctional Institution. The raid on Lanez’s equipment comes after he released multiple singles recorded from his cell, calling them “Prison Tapes.”
It is unclear whether or not Lanez will face any other repercussions for using recording equipment in prison.
