Pharrell and Chad Hugo, who reportedly have been friends since the 7th grade, joined forces for the Neptunes in 1992. The group has produced a number of Billboard charting hits for big name artists such as Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Kelis, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and more, as well as for Pharrell himself.
Throughout their career, they’ve earned a number of accolades including three Grammy’s for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, Best Pop Vocal Album for Timberlake’s Justified and Best Rap Song for “Money Maker” by Ludacris.

Earlier this year, Hugo reportedly filed a complaint against Pharrell, claiming that his ex-collaborator is attempting to monopolize their group name by “fraudulently” seeking control of its trademark. The case is reportedly still ongoing.
