Update: Janet Jackson’s Kamala Harris Apology Was NOT Authorized: The person that wrote it no longer works here.
Update #1: Following an unclear turn of events on Sunday, representatives for Janet Jackson tell Variety that someone who is not the singer’s manager, as he had claimed, was not authorized to speak on her behalf, as evidenced by the unusually worded “apology” for the singer’s ignorant remarks regarding Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ racial background.
A man named Mo Elmasri made the unofficial “apology,” which was later carried by Buzzfeed and picked up by other prominent sources. It seems that Elmasri falsely identified himself as the singer’s manager.
Elmasri claimed in an email that he no longer worked for Janet when contacted. After making an effort to enhance her reputation in the eyes of the public and her supporters, Janet and Randy fired me, and I don’t deserve this. He then gives Vice President Harris “all my support.” Jackson’s representatives did not respond right away, but Variety is informed by those close to her team that Elmasri is not known to have had a direct connection to the singer.
Original Story: Pop icon Janet Jackson is retracting her controversial comments about Vice President Kamala Harris‘ race.
The singer released a statement through her manager recently acknowledging that she misspoke when claiming that the presidential nominee isn’t Black, and shared her remorse about the remark.

After commenting that that Janet Jackson’s statements were “based on disinformation,” the attorney wrote:
“She deeply respects Vice President Kamala Harris and her accomplishments as a Black and Indian woman…Janet apologizes for any confusion caused and acknowledges the importance of accurate representation in public discourse.”

Kamala Harris
They added:
“We appreciate the opportunity to address this and will remain committed to promoting unity,”
As we previously covered, Janet Jackson came under fire earlier this week over incorrect remarks she made about Kamala Harris’ heritage. During an interview, the “Together Again” songstress claimed that she “heard” the politician wasn’t actually Black and that her father was a white man. The interviewer immediately corrected Jackson, informing her that Harris‘ father is actually of Jamaican descent.

It does not appear that anyone from Harris‘ team has reacted to Jackson’s remarks publicly at this time.
