Bernie Mac’s Daughter Shares Mixed Feelings About Being Included In His Comedy Material: ‘As I Got Older, The Jokes Got More Personal’
Late comedian Bernie Mac’s daughter, Je’Niece McCullough, is opening up about how it felt to be included in her father’s stand-up comedy routines.
According to PEOPLE, an exclusive clip of VICE’s forthcoming docuseries “Black Comedy in America,” premiering today (Oct. 15th), shows the 46-year-old reflecting on having jokes about her life shared with the world.
After co-host Tiffany Haddish asks McCullough if her dad’s material made her “feel some type of way,” she answers:
“Not when I was younger…When I was younger, I enjoyed it. It was like, ‘Oh, look, my daddy’s onstage, yay! Go daddy!’”
And continues:
“And then as I got older and the jokes got more personal, I was like, ‘Wait a minute. Hold on. Hold on. Um, sir?’”

As you may recall, Bernie Mac, real name Bernard Jeffery McCullough, passed away in August of 2008 at age 50 due to complications from pneumonia.
The comic achieved major popularity throughout his decades-long career, which included an appearance in “The Original Kings of Comedy” movie, an eponymous sitcom series, and many sold-out stand-up shows.
Bernie Mac often brought laughter with jokes about family, religion, and general life from the perspective of a Black man and is remembered as one of the most successful stand-up comedians to date.
