YNW Melly Accuses Broward Sheriff’s Office Of ‘Cruel’ Treatment, Seeks Release From Prison In New Lawsuit
Incarcerated rapper YNW Melly is suing the Broward Sheriff’s Office for alleged “cruel” treatment.
YNW Melly, real name Jamell Demons, is accused of killing two of his friends and YNW associates, D’Andre Williams (YNW Sakchaser) and Christopher Thomas Jr. (YNW Juvy) back in 2018. A previous trial for the double murder charge against YNW Melly ended in a mistrial. A new trial date is set for September 10, 2025, with a pretrial meeting scheduled for December 5, according to NBC Miami.

As he awaits the new trial, the 25-year-old’s legal team argues that authorities are “illegally” detaining Melly “under conditions that violate the First, Fifth, Sixth, Eight and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution.”
Allegedly, Melly has been experiencing “debilitating isolation.” Per the suit, he’s not been allowed to speak to his family for years. His attorneys claim they’ve also been restricted from communicating with Melly, which has hindered their ability to prepare his defense.
Arguing for the rapper’s “immediate release,” the lawsuit states,
“His cruel treatment by the Broward Detention authorities warrants his immediate release from pretrial detention since the detaining authorities have shown such a callous disregard for his human dignity Right to Counsel.”
Over the weekend, Melly’s mom took to IG and shared it’s “going on 2 1/2 years since” she has heard her son’s voice.
