YNW Melly’s Mother & Brother React To Prosecutors Confirming They Will Retry His Double Murder Case Following Mistrial: ‘This Situation Was Supposed To Be Ova Wit’

YNW Melly’s family continues to advocate for his release.

After the rapper’s double charge recently ended in a mistrial, prosecutors have reportedly confirmed their intentions to retry the case, prompting reactions from his mother and brother.

On July 22nd, the 24-year-old rap star celebrated a temporary win after jurors were reportedly deadlocked on whether or not he’s guilty of double murder charges. The victims, fellow rappers Anthony ‘YNW Sakchaser’ Williams, 21, and Christopher ‘YNW Juvy’ Thomas, 19, were shot to death inside a jeep in October of 2018. Prosecutors reportedly argue that YNW Melly, real name Jamell Demons, conspired with co-defendant Cortlen Henry to carry out the murder. They claim video evidence puts Melly at the scene where the two men were fatally shot, and that he and Henry subsequently shot at the car from the outside to stage a drive-by scenario.

However, it seems that a lack of crucial evidence such as motive and a weapon rendered jurors unable to convict the musician. Reports state the 20-day trial ended in a mistrial after two days of deliberation. Melly plead not guilty to both murder charges, he faced the death penalty if convicted. Shortly after the mistrial verdict, however, prosecutors reportedly confirmed they will retry the case.

Melly’s mother Jamie King and younger brother YNW BSlime took to social media to react to news of the retrial. King posted a picture of her son with a hopeful caption that read:

“love you I will never stop praying and fighting for you God will never take his hands off you #blessed @ynwmelly”

Additionally, the celebrity mom posted a tweet from Florida criminal defense lawyer who wrote about Melly’s case back in June that read:

“Will [be] interesting to see the State Case on YNW MELLY. They dont have witnesses to the incident, they dont know if anyone else got in the car prior to the incident, they have no murder weapon, they have no clothes with DNA, they have no statement from him& a weak motive #ynwmelly”

She wrote on the post:

“Round 2”

Brandon Curtis King, also known as YNW Bslime, reacted to news of his brother’s mistrial as well. The 16-year-old rapper shared two images of Melly, with one caption expressing how proud he is of his sibling while the other, seemingly expressed his grief at news of the retrial. He wrote:

“D**N I MISS YA DOG…This situation was supposed to be ova wit”

It is unclear at this time when the retrial will begin.
