After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Donaldson moved to New York City in 1950 and quickly became a prominent figure in the city’s vibrant jazz scene.

Some of his most memorable Blue Note albums include his 1958 hard bop masterpiece “Blues Walk,” which features the iconic title track, and “Alligator Bogaloo,” a classic soul-jazz album released in 1967.

Rest in peace, Mr. Donaldson. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones and fans. ??
