Pharrell Responds To Drake Purchasing His Auctioned Jewelry: ‘He’s A Fan Of The History’

Pharrell doesn’t seem too bothered by Drake purchasing and threatening to melt down some of his old jewelry.

During an interview with GQ published Wednesday (November 13th), the famed music producer reacted to the Canadian rap star buying $3.3 million worth of his old jewels at an auction back in 2022, stating:

“[B]eyond all of the on-goings, at the heart of all of it, he’s a fan of music.”

Adding:

“He’s a fan of the history of what it is, and I happen to be a part of that, and those artifacts are a part of it.”

A report from HipHopDX notes that Drake’s purchase included a 14K three-tone N.E.R.D pendant chain, a white gold brain pendant chain and a skateboard pendant chain.

While Pharrell has taken a stance of peace about the matter, Drake has painted a very different picture in his music.

The OVO founder trolled Pharrell and his protégé Pusha T on Travis Scott’s 2023 single “MELTDOWN,” rapping the lyrics:

“I melt down the chains that I bought from yo boss/ Give a f**k about all of that heritage s**t/ Since V[irgil] not around, the members done hung up the Louis/ They not even wearing that s**t.”

The line referenced Drake buying the chains as well as Pharell’s gig taking over Louis Vuitton men’s creative department following the death of its former director Virgil Abloh.

Despite what was said in the record, Pharrell maintains that he feels no ill will towards Drake. When the interview asked the beat-maker:

“[W]hen [Drake] was rapping about melting the jewelry down and saying, ‘Come get his legacy out my house’ and all that stuff, how did that strike you?”

Pharrell responded:

“It didn’t”
