Cynthia Erivo Explains How She Handles Wiping w/ Long Nails
Cynthia Erivo is setting the record straight on how she handles life’s most private moment.
While promoting her role as Elphaba in Wicked, Erivo appeared on the Armchair Expert podcast with actor Dax Shepard, where he boldly asked a question many people have probably wondered: how does she wipe with such long nails?
“Can I see your hands?” Shepard asked before diving into bathroom etiquette. After confirming her nails were real, he asked, “When you’re wiping…” Erivo laughed and replied, “I knew you would ask that.”
She explained that she doesn’t use just her fingers, but tissue:
“You wipe with the pads of your fingers.”

Unbothered but a bit “annoyed,” Erivo added, “I’m a functioning adult and I’ve never walked around smelling like… you know…” She also got in a good one-liner about those who don’t have nails: “There are people who do not have nails who need to check how they’re wiping.”
