Matt Gaetz Withdraws Nomination To Be Trump’s Attorney General, Amid Claims Of Inappropriate Behavior w/ A Minor
President-elect Donald Trump’s administration pick, Matt Gaetz, is no longer interested in joining the White House cabinet.
The former GOP Rep. announced earlier today (November 21st) that he’s formally withdrawing his nomination to become the next Attorney General of the United States, writing in a statement:
“While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition.”
He added:
“There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.”

Gaetz’s decision comes amid an investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against him, including accusations that he slept with a minor, which he’s continuously denied.
A source shared with ABC News that Trump’s team recently concluded that Gaetz, who would’ve needed congressional approval to secure his appointment, was not going to have enough votes for a Senate confirmation.
