Update: Former Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg Calls Out President Trump For Blaming Him & ‘Diversity’ For Tragic Helicopter-Plane Crash
Update: (Jan 30, 2025): Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg wasted no time firing back at President Trump.
As reported, this morning during a press conference on the de@dly plane and helicopter crash near D.C., Trump pushed the blame for the tragic event onto Buttigieg and DEI initiatives, saying in part, that Buttigieg ran [the Department of Transportation] “into the ground with his diversity.”
Addressing what Trump said, Buttigieg wrote on X,
“Despicable. As families grieve, Trump should be leading, not lying. We put safety first, drove down close calls, grew Air Traffic Control, and had zero commercial airline crash fatalities out of millions of flights on our watch.”
He continued,
“President Trump now oversees the military and the FAA. One of his first acts was to fire and suspend some of the key personnel who helped keep our skies safe. Time for the President to show actual leadership and explain what he will do to prevent this from happening again.”

Placing the blame on Buttigieg, President Trump stated,
“I assume this is the reason… the FAA, which is overseen by Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Do you know how badly everything’s run since he’s run the Department of Transportation? He’s a disaster. He was a disaster as a mayor. He ran his city into the ground. And he’s a disaster now. He’s got a good line of bullsh*t.”

Meanwhile, former President Barack Obama expressed his condolences about the tragic incident, saying,
“Our hearts break for the families who lost loved ones in the tragic plane and helicopter crash at DCA. Michelle and I send our prayers and condolences to everyone who is mourning today, and we’re grateful to the first responders who are doing everything they can to help under extremely difficult circumstances.”
The crash, which occurred after Buttigieg’s tenure, involved a passenger plane and a US Army helicopter, causing both aircraft to plunge into the Potomac River. There were no survivors, and authorities have recovered 28 bodies so far.
