Trump Administration Sued By Labor Groups Over USAID Shutdown
Unions representing government employees sued the Donald Trump administration Thursday to stop the shutdown of USAID.
Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cut staff access to internal systems and placed thousands on leave.
The administration slashed USAID’s workforce from over 10,000 to fewer than 300. USAID stands for United States Agency for International Development and is responsible for administering civilian foreign aid and development assistance.
AFSA and AFGE sued Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, demanding an independent USAID director, system restoration, and reinstatement of employees.
“These actions have generated a global humanitarian crisis,” the lawsuit states.
